Omar Gonzalez ACL Injury – Serious or not?

Posted By: Terry on January 7, 2012 at 5:00 pm

Omar Gonzalez will be scheduled for a surgery by one of LA Galaxy

team doctor, to operate on the rupture of his ACL (acute cruciate

ligament). The injury occurred during Omar Gonzalez’s first training

session with FC Nurnberg, in an unfortunate collision with fellow

American Timothy Chandler.

This injury is a set-back for LA Galaxy and their fans, and Omar will

most likely miss out on the important CONCACAF Champions League

match versus Toronto FC.

Not the First Time for LA Galaxy

This is not the first time LA Galaxy has encountered players who came

back injured from overseas loan. In 2010, David Beckham tore his left

Achilles tendon while playing on loan for AC Milan, and also kept him

out of the 2010 World Cup. Beckham may also make a private

recommendation to his private doctor in Finland, who carried out a

successful operation on him, two day after he tore his tendon.

Hope to See Omar Gonzalez Back to Fitness Soon!

ACL rupture is quite a common injury in soccer, although female

soccer players are more likely to be afflicted by this injury as compared

to their male counterparts. According to the records of the American

Academy of Orthpaedic, there were over 200,000 injuries of ACL on

record annually and 100,000 reconstruction surgery performed each

year.

Other notable ACL cases will include Beckham’s former England colleague,

Michael Owen. Michael Owen tore his ligament during one of the 2006

World Cup Game versus Sweden.

Wishing Omar a Speedy Recovery

That was really a horrific injury blow to Owen, and he never reach

the peak of his career after that. I hope that it will not be the same

case with Omar Gonzalez, and optimistically, Omar will be back

in the training with the team and also to play a part in the second

half of the MLS season.

Omar Gonzalez’s latest tweet, that showed his strength of character.

Omar4Gonzalez

“Where there is no struggle, there is no strength. I’ll be looking

forward to some more love from you guys once my surgery is scheduled!”
