12LA Galaxy’s MLS SuperDraft Pick in Kansas City
Posted By: Terry on January 12, 2012 at 3:09 am2012 MLS SuperDraft rumors are rife and riling as coaches and representatives
of the Major League Soccer clubs gather at Kansas City and it is still anyone’s
guess as to the young players who will land themselves a professional contract
with LA Galaxy.

Fans of LA Galaxy can watch the 2012 SuperDraft Live on ESPN2 Channel
at 9am PT.
This is what Bruce Arena has to say with regards to LA Galaxy’s #19 and #38
picks.
“We’re picking 19 and that simply means we will be reacting to the 18 teams ahead of us.
It’s really that simple.”
A simple strategy indeed, described in simple words. There will be 18 clubs before
LA Galaxy’s turn, with Montreal Impact leading the pack. However, that is still a
worthy enough sacrifice for being the MLS Cup Champions last year.
The best pick that LA Galaxy picked was the #4 pick Omar Gonzalez in 2009,who
was also recently voted the Defender of the Year in the MLS. With the #18 pick,
it is not possible for Bruce Arena to pick an able replacement to the injured Omar
Gonzalez, who has been scheduled for ACL repair surgery on Friday, 13 January.
The 2012 MLS SuperDraft features a bigger talent pool of attackers, more than
the defenders.
Most likely, Bruce Arena will pick the best talent available to him on LA Galaxy’s
turn, in the MLS SuperDraft. This will supercede the picking the option that will
best suit the needs of the team. The injuries to Omar Gonzalez and the departure
of Juninho leave a gaping hole in the middle of both defence and midfield.
BeckhamGalaxy make sthe cross reference with the recommendations from
SoccerByIves site and also compiles the shortlist for Bruce Arena’s considerations.
Some player recommendations were based on great reviews of the players’
performances shown during the MLS Combine games.
2012 MLS SuperDraft Shortlist
Kirk Urso Midfielder, UNC
Has trained with the LA Galaxy before, with affliations. Put in a decent performance
during the COMBINE games. Shows cool head and collective calmness in the game.
Andy Rose Midfielder, UCLA
Made great decisions from midfield, and is capable of launching long shots from
outside, akin to Juninho’s long-range bombs.
Sam Garza Winger/Forward, UC
An impressive winger who demonstrated good playmaking skills and decisions.
Possible to learn under the ropes of Magee, and to provide width to the midfield
of LA Galaxy.
Kohei Yamada Midfielder, Japan
Turns in surprise performances during the combine games. Quick feet, small
build, it remains to be seen if he can cope with the physical defending of the
MLS game.
The list above did not include any defenders, as the shortlist is to narrow down
the recommendations for the #19 pick. Check out BeckhamGalaxy’s
Omar Gonzalez Replacement Strategy, which includes the picks for
defenders as additional covers.
Recently, LA Galaxy team roster included the addition of Andrew Boyens,
defender who previously plays for Chivas USA. Not a bad idea actually,
considering that he will have familiarized himself with LA Galaxy’s play
in previous derbies of LA Galaxy vs Chivas.
The extension of loan of Leonardo from Sao Paulo needs to be sorted out, and
this includes the loan of Miguel Lopez, and Paolo Cardozo who has returned
to Quilmes as the coach wishes to see them personally to review his inclusion
of the players into the squad.
Bruce Arena needs to add able bodies into the depleting team roster of LA
Galaxy, starting with Kansas City’s 2012 MLS SuperDraft.
