16LA Galaxy Looking for Depth in 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft
Posted By: Terry on January 16, 2012 at 9:00 amLA Galaxy picked up defender Tommy Meyers (#19 draft pick) and midfielder
Kenny Walker (#38 draft pick) from the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. Both players
will look to provide defensive cover and add depth to the squad. Come 17th Jan,
LA Galaxy will look at the MLS Supplemental Draft roster again, and will look
to ponder over which players will be able to complement with the current LA
Galaxy squad.
In total, LA Galaxy has five draft picks in the MLS Supplemental Draft. As
LA Galaxy won the 2011 MLS Cup last year, the club is automatically given
the #19 pick. All 19 MLS Clubs will take part in a total of 4 rounds of selection,
with new Expansion club Montreal Impact starting off each round with the first
pick. In the final 4th round, LA Galaxy has the advantage of possessing 2 picks,
which they have acquired from Chivas USA in exchange for forward Juan Pablo
Angel. The following list is the sequence in which all 19 MLS Clubs will follow,
with Montreal Impact starting off each of the 4 rounds.
1. Montreal Impact
2. Vancouver Whitecaps FC
3. New England Revolution
4. Toronto FC
5. Chivas USA
6. San Jose Earthquakes
7. DC United
8. Portland Timbers
9. Chicago Fire
10. Columbus Crew
11. FC Dallas
12. New York Red Bulls
13. Philadelphia Union
14. Colorado Rapids
15. Seattle Sounders FC
16. Sporting Kansas City
17. Real Salt Lake
18. Houston Dynamo
19. LA Galaxy
I am supposing that LA Galaxy manager Bruce Arena will be adopting a wait-and-see
approach, the usual in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. The good thing is that Bruce
Arena can have more choices in the final round with a #5 pick, acquired from Chivas
USA.
BeckhamGalaxy came up with a short list of some of the leading players for the 2012
MLS SuperDraft. In spite of a fair impression made from the Adidas MLS Combine,
Japanese midfielder Kohei Yamada was not picked up in the MLS SuperDraft and
is still available in the Supplemental Draft.
Click to read a quick review of Kohei Yamada.
One downside to picking Kohei Yamada is that he will occupy one of the foreigner
slots of the LA Galaxy squad, and LA Galaxy may be looking for an MLS-ready
defender to replace the injured Omar Gonzalez, outside the draft. Omar Gonzalez
underwent an ACL repair surgery on Jan 13 and it was carried out successfully.

Looking forward to see some action from LA Galaxy's Kenney Walker?
After picking up a defender and a midfielder, LA Galaxy may pick up someone on
the wings, or perhaps another goalkeeper. Will LA Galaxy’s new recruit be able to
get some playing time next season and be able to provide cover for LA Galaxy?
If not, let us hear from you.
