06LA Galaxy and BeckhamGalaxy Looking to MLS SuperDraft 2012
Posted By: Terry on January 6, 2012 at 5:18 pmThe MLS SuperDraft 2012 is scheduled to take place on January 12, in
Kansas City. LA Galaxy, being the MLS Champions of last season, is set
to be alloted the 19th pick, while new expansion teams like Montreal
Impact will automatically be entitled to the 1st pick in the Draft.

LA Galaxy Fans, are you ready for SuperDraft 2012?
This year’s MLS SuperDraft is given a new change, in that the number
of rounds has been shortened to 2 rounds, instead of 3.The number of
teams participating increases to 19 with the latest newcomer on the
block, Montreal Impact.
The same order of the Draft pick will be used for the subsequent MLS
Supplemental Draft, set to take place on January 17 2012.
LA Galaxy’s participation in previous MLS Superdraft led them to pick
up players like Sean Franklin, Omar Gonzalez, A. J. DeLaGarza,
Michael Stephens, Paolo Cardozo and Hector Jimenez.
Omar Gonzalez, Emerging from Promising Rookie
It is interesting to note that LA Galaxy has been extremely successful
in picking great defensive talents like Sean Franklin, Omar Gonzalez
and A. J. DeLaGarza, all of whom were instrumental part of an
impressive defense that conceded 38 goals in 46 matches. LA Galaxy
may be looking to pick another fresh new defensive talent, in the event
that Omar Gonzalez may be signed permanently by FC Nurnberg, if
the loan move turn out to be successful and Omar becomes a key part
of FC Nurnberg’s first team.
The above scenario appears to be highly possible, given Omar Gonzalez
is Rookie of the Year in 2009 and Defender of the Year (MLS) in 2011,
just last year. He was also named into the MLS All-Star Team consecutively
from 2010 to 2011.
Omar Gonzalez is also highly rated by David Beckham, who sees him as an
exciting and emerging talent. Omar stands at 1.96m and he is well-built
with great strength for a defender. His heading abilities is outstanding,
which not only allows him to defend any high balls, but to also score goals
on the offensive end. His offensive forays in the penalty box from David
Beckham’s corners saw him reap a haul of two goals, both from headers.
Gonzalez was not called up on previous US National Team camps, but due to
his great playing form for LA Galaxy, he finally earned a call-up by
US coach Juergen Klinnsmann and looks set to add to his national caps.
However, due to the loan opportunity by FC Nürnberg presenting Gonzalez
a chance to play in German Bundesliga, he had no choice but to withdraw
from the US National Team Camp.
LA Galaxy, Without Omar Gonzalez?
Without Gonzalez in the line-up, BeckhamGalaxy is predicting the defensive
pairing of Sean Franklin and A.J DeLaGarza, both of whom had been used to
the other party’s playing style. And of course, in carrying on with the tradition
of unearthing promising defenders, LA Galaxy can look into the MLS Superdraft
2012 to pick the “Omar Gonzalez”s of the future.

A Replacement for Omar Gonzalez?
Of course, BeckhamGalaxy is speculating in the event that Omar Gonzalez is
signed on by FC Nürnberg or other European Clubs, who sees the talent in Gonzalez.
As a LA Galaxy fan, I will personally wish that Omar Gonzalez will continue to develop
into one of the greatest, if not GREATEST defender of the game and to contribute much
more to LA Galaxy.
However, if the European league beckons, then as a reluctant fan, I will wish Omar
Gonzalez all the best and to also firmly believe in him that he will be one of the
brightest football stars, who once plied his trade and began his roots in club football
at LA Galaxy.
BREAKING NEWS
A direct news report from Amsterdam. Omar Gonzalez has suffered a freak accident
during his first training session for FC Nürnberg. Apparently, he collided with right
-back Timothy Chandler during his first training sesssion. The doctors have confirmed
it to be ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) tear. Omar is already on his way back home
in LA and will be awaiting surgery. The recuperation period after surgery will be
approximately four months to nine months, depending on the severity of the ACL tear.
This also means that Omar will be missing out on the pre-season and possibly, most
of the regular season.
All of us at BeckhamGalaxy wish Omar Gonzalez a speedy recovery, and that he
will be back in action on the playing field for LA Galaxy.
