Beckham will stay at LA Galaxy.

That is, I am making my bold prediction on this blog. However, there are various

headlines screaming across the net and papers right now, contradicting my claim.

“Beckham mulling his options.”

“LA Galaxy’s Beckham admits that two major European clubs are chasing for his

signature.”

There are other clubs like Paris SG and Tottenham Hotspurs who are interested

bringing Beckham over and give him a chance to play in the European League.

No doubt they can put more money on the table as well. It is reported that

playing in the European league will better Beckham’s chances of playing in the

upcoming Olympics and the World Cup squad.

But really? Is the MLS in America inferior to the European leagues?

I mean, LA is not the only good team out there in the Major League. Look at

Houston Dynamo. They certainly gave LA Galaxy the run for their money in

the MLS Cup FInal last Sunday. It takes the combined stars of Beckham, Keane

and Donovan to break the deadlock in the 72nd minutes.

In Galaxy’s run-up to the Finals, they had to work hard to break the resilience

and determination of teams like Real Salt Lake and NY Red Bulls.

The MLS is just going to get even more and more competitive with the Drafting

for next season that is coming up. Weaker teams are given the priority to select

unprotected players from other clubs. That is a great way to prevent clubs with

mega-rich resources from having the unfair advantage in the MLS. (Paris SG and

Man City, just a few examples.) LA Galaxy will be expecting another tough season

as they seek to become consecutive champions.

Beckham’s family is happy to stay at LA. You can even watch the youtube video

of the Beckham boys having fun playing soccer on the beaches of LA. LA is so

close to Hollywood glamour and fashion, Victoria  does not need to move to

Paris for their haute couture. There are many career opportunities for her as

a fashion designer in fashion-crazy LA.

Last but not least, there are many LA fans who will wish for Beckham to stay

in Galaxy (myself included). Beckham, play for us for at least another season.

Better still, retire your number 23 shirt at LA Galaxy.

Nevertheless, whatever decision Beckham has made or will make,  I, as a LA

Galaxy fan, will still respect his final decision and wish all the best for him

and his family (at LA or elsewhere.)
